Final Assessment

For my final piece i chose to work with stencil, spray paint, newspaper and canvas. To begin with an number of news paper articles were sought that related to tragedy, major community problems and death. I chose these particular articles because they were all related to events that could have been avoidable but due to a lack of education and proper training, these events were able to take place. I then made a collage of these articles on three lengths of canvas.

The next step I took was to make a stencil of a symbol that represents rising above these problems. Through research it was found that in many cultures the feather is worn by communties during traditional ceremonies to symbolise such meaning. I therefore created a stencil of the feather and placed to over the three collages. By making a single large stencil feather for each collage I was able to represent a community wanting to overcome the problems within the articles. the fact that there are three collages in total shows the rising above on more than one occassion and thus showing that it is possible to have strength to continue fighting.

Working with materials

These are a few images of experimenting with numerous materials. I have played around with metals, spray paint and canvas. Useing the different materials i was able to wrap, stencil, block colour and create a feel for the material i was working with. This enabled me to make an informed decision about which material/s would work best for my final piece.

Week 3 & 4 - imovie & sound

The following is a movie made using imovie and soundtrackpro, showcasing images taken at Singapore Zoo in June 2009. From using these two programs i have found a very useful tool to use not only to showcase private photos but also a way in which it is possible to showcase my own designs and enhance the emotion i wish the client to experience from my designs, with the help of adding sound effects through soundtrackpro.

Week 2 - Text as art

This is a short stop motion picture using text on a white board. The whiteboard assisted in the ease of making the picture rewind itself differently to how it was originally written.

Week 1 - stick structures

This was a great way to start being creative - lots of sticks, lots of glue and lots of imagination! Each was to be unique as dna :)

Was a lot of effort to configure the finished overall product but was it was decided and the ball began to roll it was clear where we were headed.
